9:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Join us for archaeological excavations at a Middle Woodland period occupation site in Gloucester County. Previous excavations at this site have revealed stratified deposits and cultural features. This work counts toward the prehistoric excavation requirement for certification. Please email fairfield@fairfieldfoundation.org if you are interested in participating!

This class is for ages 13 & older. Do you want to develop a balance of strength & flexibility? Hatha Yoga (Ha meaning SUN, Tha meaning MOON) refers to the balance of actions & reception–uniting the Mind/Body/Breath through classic Indian asanas (postures).

Volunteers can participate in a variety of activities including washing, sorting, and identifying artifacts, labeling and mending artifacts, or helping with other small projects. Join Dr. Grace Cartwright of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science as she explains how sand, silt, and rocks move around our rivers and oceans. You’ll also get an up-close look at scientific tools used for this research.
Full Description
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science and Yorktown Sailing Charters have partnered for “Science Under Sail” cruises aboard the 105-foot schooner Alliance. On Wednesdays in May, guest scientists from VIMS will share their knowledge of Chesapeake Bay and its marine life with passengers aboard the Alliance during 2-hour cruises on the York River.The Alliance is a traditional 3-masted schooner that embarks from Yorktown’s Riverwalk Landing Pier, across the York River from VIMS. The 75-ton vessel can hold 49 passengers.
