Join VIMS graduate student Mark Stratton as he casts a net to see what’s swimming beneath the Alliance. Learn how fish are preserved and catalogued as you participate in a “show and tell” of preserved fishes from places near and far.
Full Description
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science and Yorktown Sailing Charters have partnered for “Science Under Sail” cruises aboard the 105-foot schooner Alliance. On Wednesdays in May, guest scientists from VIMS will share their knowledge of Chesapeake Bay and its marine life with passengers aboard the Alliance during 2-hour cruises on the York River.

The Alliance is a traditional 3-masted schooner that embarks from Yorktown’s Riverwalk Landing Pier, across the York River from VIMS. The 75-ton vessel can hold 49 passengers.
